Healthy Living

At YWCA Greenwich, our goal is to help all of our Members lead healthier lives by offering a variety of health and fitness programs for all age groups.

Aquatics

Under a new Director of Aquatics, YWCA Greenwich enhanced curriculum in all the swim lesson programs and improved training of teachers and lifeguards.

A new YW Floats class that was introduced for adults provides a unique workout that incorporates Pilates, strength training and yoga on a Tsunami Fitness Board on top of the water. The new class is unique to Greenwich and is attracting a new group of fitness enthusiasts to the YWCA Greenwich pool.

New Partnerships

In partnership with the Zac Foundation, YWCA Greenwich provided swim lessons for under-served women as part of an effort to make swimming a way of life for all, particularly adults who are parents or guardians who should be incorporating water safety skills and training into the lives of their children. In addition, the YWCA partnered with the Greenwich Senior Center to expand water aerobics classes for seniors.

Adult Fitness Programs

YWCA Greenwich expanded its lineup of adult fitness programs, including adding evening classes and hiring additional personal trainers to help adults build strength and endurance during workouts.

At our first Spring into Fitness event, YWCA Greenwich offered YWCA members and the community an opportunity to try out classes. In addition to the launch of YW Floats, participants took kickboxing with Ben Dawson, the YWCA's newest fitness instructor and personal trainer. Participants also received instruction in yoga, Pilates, TRX, kettlebells, and many participated in Pickleball, which was introduced to the YWCA last year. The supervised game room gave parents and other adults an opportunity to workout without the pressure of finding a childcare.

Youth Sports

In support of local youth, YWCA Greenwich expanded its programs for this demographic. In its first full year of managing Greenwich Junior Babe Ruth Baseball League, the YWCA had 10 teams playing in local and travel leagues. The YWCA's gymnastics program was at near capacity throughout the year.
